Briton Ferry Llansawel 1 - Haverfordwest County 2

Lee Jenkins celebrates scoring the winner with a powerful trademark header for Haverfordwest CountyHaverfordwest County narrowly defeated ten-man Briton Ferry Llansawel on a wet Tuesday evening at the Old Road Welfare Ground.

The Bluebirds are now unbeaten in their last six matches as they remain second in the table five points behind leaders Penybont.

There was a minute’s applause held before kick-off in memory for the late Raymond Pennock.

The Bluebirds made three changes from Saturday, in came the vastly experienced Ricky Watts and Owain Jones, plus Luke Tabone returned from international duty where he made his debut for Malta who won 1-0 against Moldova in the UEFA Nations League.

Owain Jones gave the visitors the lead which was cancelled out by Kian Jenkins as the score read 1-1 at half time. The Bluebirds secured victory as player of the month for September Lee Jenkins headed home the winner. Late in the match Ferry had their skipper Alex Gammond sent off for a second bookable offence.

Tony Pennock’s men made a bright start as they took the lead in the eleventh minute, Jacob Owen made excellent ground down the wing before the wing back played in an excellent inviting ball to Owain Jones who neatly tucked the ball between the legs of keeper Will Fuller.

Midway through the first period the visitors were forced to make a change as defender Alaric Jones had picked up a knock and was replaced by Iori Humphreys.

Striker Owain Jones celebrates scoring an early opener for The BluebirdsThe hosts levelled matters as Kian Jenkins made no mistake from a shot outside the 18 yard area, minutes later Luke Bowen drilled in a dangerous low shot across the face of goal. At the other end Ben Fawcett put in a teasing ball into the box, which just evaded his co striker Owain.

Just before the hour mark the Bluebirds grabbed a vital second goal as Jacob Owen’s in swinging corner was met by a towering header by Jenkins which crashed into the back of the net.

The visitors thought they had grabbed a third goal when the ball was cleared off the line as the visitors claimed it had crossed the goal line but the referee after a discussion with his linesman awarded a corner for the Bluebirds.

Late on Ferry went down to ten-men as Gammond was sent off for a second yellow card offence as the skipper  deliberately pulled back Ben Ahmun who would have been through on goal.

There was no further drama as Tony Pennock’s men stood firm for the remainder to pick up another precious three points on the road.
